CRIT 92 | Paracosm | Summer 2024

Course Description: A paracosm is a detailed imaginary world generally originating from childhood through adulthood, often used to acclimate one with the surrounding world and typically mistaken for reality. Ringing any bells? The imaginary friend you ran beside on the playground, the mythologically ascribed roles assigned playing ‘house,’ that old lucky shirt now fitting like clingwrap. We have constantly crafted worlds to adjoin our own. And as adults, we continue to toe such realities. Sure - maybe not so blatantly, but we proceed to witness a world shaped by our biases, proclivities, and experiences, playing a metaphorical game of hopscotch and always stepping on the chalk lines.
